Early Arita blue and white shallow dish - late 17th century. Finely painted decoration shows 2 sages in a garden. one appears to be chastising the other, who is hanging his head in shame. The facial expressions are wonderful. There is a 4 character mark to base and 5 spur marks from kiln supports.Condition: there is a 5.5 cm hairline crack from the rim - not very noticeable from the front (please see photographs)
Size: diameter 28.5 cm, depth 5 cm.
