Description

We have for sale a very attractive and useful late Victorian solid mahogany Campaign desk.

This usefully sized mahogany pedestal campaign desk consists of a green leather top , over a single long map drawer fitted with four brass ring pull handles, over two pedestals each containing three graduated drawers each fitted with a pair of ring pull handles, all over turned bun feet. All of the drawer are fitted with locks, three locks are original, by Tucker and Reeves of London, and the remaining four are fitted with replacement locks.

The real beauty of this desk is that it breaks down into three major components, two pedestals with drawers and a top section housing the long map drawer. This makes the desk very easy to transport. Desks of this form were specifically designed for this purpose, so that they could be efficiently stacked and transported. The design is truly brilliant, even the bun feet can be screwed out of the base and packed into the drawers. So unlike any other heavy mahogany desk this desk and desks like it are almost a pleasure to move and can easily be carried along narrow hallways, and up narrow stairways.

This desk is 30 inches, 40.25 inches (102cm) long and 21.25 inches deep. The desk is obviously well traveled but is in a very good functional condition other than some fading to the left hand side panel of the top, some wear to the left hand side of the leather, one or two minor repairs and the surface wear that one would expect from a well used mobile desk
