Edwardian Pair of J. Sankey Copper Wine Coasters

Photos

Description

We have for sale a rather lovely pair of Edwardian copper wine coasters by the excellent copperware manufacturer Joseph Sankey and Sons of Albert Street Works, Bilston, Staffordshire.

The coasters are of a cylindrical reticulated form with an upper lobed rim and decorated to the lower half with a frieze of oak leaves and acorns. Each coaster is supported on three copper ball feet. The base of each coaster carries the marks Made in England, J.S&S, Solid Copper.

The coasters are 3.5 inches high and 3.75 inches wide to the upper rim. Both coasters are in a very good condition although there are one or two small indentations to the body and one of the ball feet of one of the coasters is slightly impressed into the base. Both coasters stand firmly and as such are fully functional stable wine bottle coasters. The coasters most probably date to somewhere between 1900 and 1910.

Please note, the bottles of wine shown in the third image are for illustration only and not included in this sale.
