We have for sale a lovely late Victorian pair of silver candlesticks by the excellent jewelers Goldsmiths and Silversmiths of of 112 Regent Street, London.

This very attractive pair of weighted candlesticks are of a fluted tapered form extending up to removable oval fluted sconses beneath which is embossed an attractive bow and extending downwards to an oval base. Each candle stick and each sconse carries full hallmarks for London 1896 along with the makers marks for William Gibson and John Lawrence Langman.

Gibson and Langman were established in 1880 and bought 112 Regent Street, London from John Joseph Mechi in 1893. The company absorbed The Goldsmiths' Alliance Ltd becoming Goldsmiths and Silversmiths in 1898. Goldsmiths and Silversmiths eventually merged with Garrard & Co Ltd in 1952.

These candlesticks are 7 inches (17.8cm) high and sit on oval bases that measures 4 inches (10.1cm) by 3 inches (7.6cm). The candlesticks are in a good to very good antique condition with the surface wear that one would expect from well cared for but well used 120 year old silver. The hallmarks are all very clear, however the makers marks are worn but just about legible, see image 4.
