Description

We have for sale a very hard to find Rockingham trio and matching patty plate.

The trio consists of a typically rococo teacup, coffee cup and saucer, all decorated in the light blue and gilt Rockingham pattern No 802. However, what makes this trio unusual is that it is accompanied by a patty plate also decorated in pattern 802. Patty plates were used for holding a sweet biscuit to consume whilst drinking either tea or coffee. They are rather rare because they were an optional extra and in consequence were seldom included in tea or coffee services. All but the teacup bases are marked with the pattern number 802 and the saucer also carries the puce Rockingham mark circa 1830-41.

The saucer of the trio is 6 inches (15cm) in diameter, the patty plate is approximately 4.5 inches (11.5cm) in diameter, the coffee cup is approximately 3 inches (7.5cm) high and the teacup is approximately 2 inches (5cm) high. All are in a very good condition with no chips, cracks or repairs, although the handles of the cups display a little bit of age related discoloration and the teacup has a small blemish to the interior glaze.
