Description

For sale we have an example of a Trident Swansea dessert plate c1817.

This Swansea soaprock porcelain dessert plate decorated by David Evans with garden flowers. The plate carries a Swansea impressed mark and trident to base.

The soaprock porcelain was developed at Swansea to try and reduce kiln losses and production costs. However, the translucency of the porcelain was poor, which made it unsalable to London merchants such as Mortlocks. As a result, the move to the Trident porcelain contributed to the cessation of porcelain manufacture at Swansea.

This plate is 8 inches (20.3cm) in diameter and is in a very good condition with only minimal wear to the decoration.

This Swansea Trident porcelain dessert plate was part of the selling exhibition of rare Derby, Pinxton, Nantgarw and Swansea porcelain "A journey with William Billingsley" 2016, ISBN: 9783741809903.
