E Cawthorne Winter Scene in Downham Village 1885

We have the pleasure of being able to offer for sale a lovely Victorian watercolour painting of Downham Village, Pendle, LancashireThis lovely Lancashire scene depicts Downham Village in winter and shows the view towards the church. The painting is of particular interest because it was painted prior to the addition of crenelations to the church in 1910. The painting is signed and dated E Cawthorn 1885 in the bottom right corner.
The picture is 8 & 1/4 inches high (21cm) and 17 and 3/4 inches long (45cm). The picture is presented in a very good gilt frame and is in a very good antique condition.
About the Artist
E Cawthorne was a Victorian Lancashire based artist who painted local scenes. The works of this artist are very popular and good examples of the artist’s work are very keenly fought over in North Yorkshire and Lancashire auction houses.
