Description

We are very pleased to be able to offer this very attractive Georgian cut steel misers purse.

Misers purses gained popularity during the 17th century and basically consisted of a long ornately decorated fabric tube with a central slit and two rings that can be moved to seal the purse. The configuration of the purse made it hard for pickpockets to steel from pockets and allowed ladies to fasten them over their belts.

This particular miser purse is in black fabric decorated with cut steel (it sticks to a magnet) arranged in geometric patterns and is terminated by lovely cut steel tapered beadwork. The purse is just over 10 & 1/2 inches (26.7cm) long and is in a very good antique condition
