Description

We have the real pleasure of being able to offer this lovely large Victorian silver topped claret.

The claret jug consists of a clear glass long ovoid body mounted on a lovely star cut base. The body is mounted with a lovely simple collar flaring up to a simple flat hinged lid wich terminates in a elegant and simple thumb plate. The collar and hinge also extend to form a very attractive angular handle which terminates midway down the glass body. This is a large claret jug and it will hold over 800ml. The collar carries full English silver hallmarks for London 1890, along with the makers marks E.F. H.T. The lid is also marked for 1890 with the same makers mark. E.F. H.T., Edgar Finley & Hugh Taylor were highly regarded silversmiths who traded as Horace Woodward & Co.

The claret jug is approximately 10 inches (25.4cm) high from the base to the tip of the thumb plate and in an excellent condition with no repairs, although the hallmarks/makers marks on the collar are rubbed but legible.
