Description

For sale is a striking Imari Stork patterned Davenport stone china cream jug.

This jug is a bit of a rarity. Davenport Stork pattern stone china dating from 1805-1820 is becoming very hard to find. This is the first stork patterned cream jug with a lid we have encountered in the flesh.

The stork pattern consists of a Chinoiserie garden scene containing a stork, chrysanthemum and peonies painted in an Imari pallet with underglaze light blue transfers combined with cobalt blue and overglaze brown, orange, pink and gilt enamels. The pattern isn't confined to the outside of the jug and lid but extends to form a lovely patterned floral border around the inside rim of the jug. The base of the jug carries the Davenport mark for stone china dating to 1805 -1820. What a truly lovely piece.

The jug is approximately 6 inches high from the base to the top of the lid and the enamels are in a superb condition as is the jug and lid other than two small hairlines visible in images 1 and 5.
