Description

A wonderful piece of 19th century folk ware, this painted wooden box is coopered like a barrel and will make a lovely storage container for a variety of items in the home.

- Painted a reddish brown externally and dark green inside, with a foliate design including flowers, both inside and out.
- Constructed similarly to a barrel, with metal straps containing shaped slats.
- Handled lid, with further handles either side of the container.
- Metal bands painted to resemble wood grain in a yellowish tone.

This can be used in a number of ways for storage, perhaps as a log basket, for kitchen items or even somewhere to store toilet rolls in a large bathroom!

In good condition showing wear consistent with age and use. There is a split through the centre of the lid which has had a stapled repair.
