Description

Vintage Brass Ships Anchor. Bronze Stockless Navy pattern.

A stockless anchor or patent anchor is a specific type of anchor. This anchor was popular because it was easy to handle and stow. The crown, arms, and flukes are not welded together because the whole device is cast as a solid object, making it much stronger than an anchor that is welded together. The stockless anchor was patented in England in the year 1821.

These bronze anchors were made for when it was desired to have no magnetic interference. Special Navy jobs that were a bit hush hush or possibly for boats doing magnetometer surveys.
