Description

A beautiful little wall clock with a very unusual though fully original, light oak case.

The 8 day duration, gut fusee movement with an Anchor Recoil escapement and crutch beat setting.

Behind a 7 1/2" visible, painted iron dial that retains its original paint. Having an outer, divided minute track and hour triangular markings, Roman hour numerals and the upper centre portion bearing "KENT EDUCATION COMMITTEE". The numeral VI is flanked with the maker's name of "THOMPSON (of) BIRMINGHAM". The matching 'arrow head' hands are of blued steel.

The polished brass, hinged bezel has a sight ring and flat glass.

In a cute yet very substantial light oak case with a one-piece moulded dial surround that is pegged on and recessed for the dial and bezel.

The back box has a short trunk with a curved bottom and locking regulation door that conforms with the dial surround. It also has hinged access doors to both sides.

Robert Thompson was established in 1785.

I find this little clock extremely pleasing to the eye with its well written dial and light oak case.
DateEarly 20th Century : 1905 Dimensions13" high x 10 3/4" wide x 6 1/4" deep. ConditionThe movement is clean and working well with no visible signs of wear but has not yet been serviced by me. The dial is wholly original and retains its original paint and writing, it does however show minor wear due to its age and usage. The case and bezel are in restored condition with a lovely French polished finish to the oak. There are signs of historical wear and repair and the lower door lock is working.
