Description

A very attractive and small table clock.

The 8 day duration, circular French movement with Anchor Recoil escapement and rack striking the hours and halfs on a coiled steel gong. The timekeeping is adjusted by way of a geared Brocot regulator and seperate key.

Behind a 5" diameter, bowed enamel dial with a white background and black outer minute dots, Arabic 1/4's and hour numerals. The upper area bears the retailer's signature of "Hampton & Sons Ltd. PALL MALL. EAST S.W.1" Having blackened steel hands and behind a hinged brass bezel with a bowed and bevelled glass. The Brocot regulation peg protrudes through the dial above the hour numeral 12.

Contained in a good Cuban mahogany 'Lancet' style case with raised ebony stringing to the front and ebonised edge moulding. The short plinth sits upon 4 brass bun feet.
DateEarly 20th Century : 1900 Dimensions13" high x 8 5/8" wide x 5 1/2" deep. ConditionThe movement is awaiting overhaul but otherwise in good, fully working condition. The enamel dial is good with no noticeable damage and the case has been beautifully French polished to a high degree - the photographs do not serve it justice and reflections give the impression that it has blemishes which it does not.
