A larger than usual good quality dial clock.

The very substantial, 4 screwed pillar, chain fusee movement with Anchor Recoil escapement. The backplate stamped with the maker's name "F W ELLIOTT LTD. ENGLAND" also having the serial number 14570 and dated 1941.

Behind a painted steel, 14" diameter dial with a cream background, black outer minute track and Roman hour numerals. The centre being written with "MARLBOROUGH ARMS, SEDGMOOR PLACE, LONDON S.E.5" also, having black 'spade' hands and a substantial, cast brass bezel with a silvered sight ring and flat glass.

Contained in a heavily constructed, dark mahogany case with a broad dial surround. The back box has a side access door and a rounded bottom incorporating a further and curved locking door.

It is believed that this clock was commissioned to be hung in the Marlborough Arms pub which was demolished just a few years ago which can be seen pictured on the internet. It is typical of the very substantial clocks made by Elliott who were still trading until about 20 years ago.

The case bears slight usage damage expected of its age and the bottom door lock is missing. The movement though substantial and not noticeably worn would benefit from a thorough cleaning and service to ensure reliability. The price is for the clock fully overhauled however, it can be purchased in its present and working condition for £1,000.
