Description

Of simple design, and made of finely figured walnut, this desk has two drawers beneath a sloping front that lifts and slides up and over the fitted interior. It has tapering, chamfered legs and turned walnut handles.

On the back it bears the Utility mark, dating it to c.1950, and it is a fine example of the kind of design and craftsmanship that companies such as Reynolds of Ludlow could achieve in difficult post-war conditions. It has no maker's label but an identical desk is featured and attributed on p.156 of David Joel's 'The Adventure of British Furniture' (1953).

92cm wide, 98.5cm high and 56.5cm deep.

In very good condition with a couple of minor knocks. It has been repolished to its natural colour and the handles are replacements that replicate the originals.
