Description

This light oak desk has two remarkable features - an ingenious automatic locking system and a stepped top of twelve fan-like veneers that radiate from the centre and are surrounded by a pollard oak crossband. The desk was made by William Angus & Co., furniture manufacturers and upholsterers, who patented the locking mechanism in 1937. When the lockable central drawer is closed, all other drawers - four to the left hand side and two plus a filing cabinet to the right - are automatically locked. Only when the central is pushed in can the other drawers of the desk be opened. The turned knobs are of a darker, contrasting wood to the light oak drawer fronts.
