Bizarre Natural Salvaged Wood Sculpture Readymade

1 of 6
Description
An Extraordinary Naturally Weathered Wood Sculpture or 'Readymade'An incredible find - a very old piece of timber, clearly once employed in a former role (perhaps a beam, joist or part of a ship), weathered, worn, pitted and eroded into a most bizarre form.
Man-made holes can be seen from its former use: it must be a good few hundred years old. Harder or knotted areas have been more resistant to erosion and have thus created 'points' or 'limbs'
Stands upright unaided, as shown.
Somewhat zoomorphic: could be interpreted as a prehistoric beast or a grotesque cockerel / bird form.
On close examination, the surface displays a myriad of worm holes....with the growth rings of the original tree still detectable.
Was almost certainly once buried deep in silt in either a river or perhaps brackish water.
This wonderful object is unrepeatable and makes for a dramatic interior design piece.
Responds well to different lighting set ups.
Not to be missed!
Dimensions -
Large and impressive, approx 75 cms tall.
Condition -
In heavily weathered condition.
Note, not suitable for vivarium, terrarium or aquarium use due to likely chemicals within wood and later (but old) application of preservative.
