This is an antique carved hall chair. A Scottish, oak decorative elbow seat, dating to the mid Victorian period, circa 1860.

Of superb carved appearance and excellent proportion
Displays a desirable aged patina and in good order
Select oak presents fine grain interest throughout
Rich russet hues beam beneath a wax polish finish

Scrolled leaf upper rail with serpentine wing form
Tall carved back rest accentuated with ornate foliate motif
Serpentine arms terminate in striking lion's head knuckles
Each arm set upon a turned and cupped baluster support

Comfortable, flat seat squab at a useful height of 48.5cm (19")
Attractive sash apron with carved relief details
Standing upon a pair of flared square section feet to the front
Square rear legs unite with a H-stretcher rail
