Description

Absolutely stunning! - This beautiful, original Gwenda compact powder/cream jar is in the best of vintage condition. Measuring c. 3.1/4" inch diameter (8.2cm), the top is exquisite, the use of foil and reverse painting to the top to give a wonderful effect. Depticing a romantic scene of a lady in a crinoline dress and a proposing beau holding her hand, sitting on an English garden wall. The top is marked Gwenda to the underneath, the chrome outer is in excellent condition no tarnish or wear. The jar/bowl is made of a white milk glass and also in beautiful condition - this is as good as I have seen, I doubt they have seen the light of day for many years and are sure to delight the most discerning of buyers!.
Gwenda was a tradename owned by Hussey-Dawson of Birmingham. Respected manufacturer using butterfly wing and foil designs to create attractive pieces. Operating c. 1930 and closing in the early 60's, Gwenda Compacts and other Vintage Vanity items by the company are now highly desired and collected the world over - this is a fine example.
