Beautiful, this is a gorgeous piece - rare as hen's teeth, this original COTY Paris powder compact c. 1930 is in good vintage condition. The top is adorable, a wonderful reverse painted cover depicting an autumn leaf tree with a young girl reaching to pick from it. Set against a background of real butterfly wing adding interest and a wonderful deep blue to the skyline. Measuring c. 1.5/8" inch (4.2cm) it is a small piece, set to a blackened chrome base. All clasps and hinges are in good order, snapping shut and opening to reveal a lovely clear convex mirror, a godette and COTY signed puff. It is in lovely condition for its age, marked for the Patent 202213 which is for the butterfly wing pictures (granted to Shipton and eventually used by TL Mott). The black enamel shows minor wear commensurate with its 80 plus years and having been pre-loved (better than pics suggest) but in my view does not detract from this rather special piece. I am hoping this will find its way to an appreciative buyer.
