This is a beautiful, gilt, tooled leather bound Holy Family Bible. Measuring c. 13.5" inch x 10" inch - edged in brass with brass clasps. In super condition, it is "Browns, Self Interpreting Family Bible, containing Old & New Testaments - in which annexed marginal references and illustrations, an exact summary of the several books, a paraphrase of the most obscure or important parts, explanatory notes, evangelical reflections" by the late Rev. John Brown, published by JW Thompson & Co Publishers 11 Hume Terrace, Eastbourne, Darlington.
Originally printed in 1778, I cannot find any edition numbers in this one, although reference to the late John Brown, suggests it is early 1800's. - Beautifully illustrated with lots of colour plates - a superb example, included is a handwritten note leaving the bible to "Jack", from Margaret Scott.
