Scales Brothers of Kendal, Westmorland Lake District. circa 1865

An 8 day painted dial longcase clock in a mahogany case of superb quality with a variety of exotic wood veneers, inlays and crossbanding mahogany quarter columns, oak moulding to the base.

The movement is twin barrelled, striking hourly on a bell, with Brass hands the movement has been cleaned and serviced and fully working.

The painted dial has views of windmills and ruins in the corners, to the centre are two birds and a finely painted butterfly.

The Scales family were well known Watch and Clock makers and repairers in Kendal from the early 1800's through into the 20th century, the brothers here being Thomas and Henry in business at 26 Finkle Street in the 1860 /70's.
