Description

A fine quality London Georgian longcase clock by Thomas Pace. A mahogany case with choice flame mahogany veneers of slim, elegant proportions. Brass fluted hood columns with brass stopped fluting and to the trunk sides. Circular side glass hood apertures. A double raised plinth and base panel with re-entrant corners to the mouldings. An arched hood with original 'wavy' cresting surmounted by 3 original brass finials. A convex glass and cast brass bezel to the dial. A convex painted dial with blued steel hands signed 'Thos. Pace London'. An 8-day duration, 5 pillar mechanism of high quality striking the hours on a bell. Brass cased weights and London quality steel and brass pendulum. Circa 1795.


Thomas Pace of London is recorded in Baillies' 'Watchmakers and Clockmakers of The World' book as working from 1784-1825 in Whitechapel. A watch by Thomas Pace is noted in the Guildhall Museuem.
