Description

A large oil on canvas by the celebrated Russian artist Mikhail Filipovich Volodin 1912-1987 entitled "Spring in Crimea".Vibrant colours combined with bold brush strokes make this painting a fine example of modern Russian impressionism which was routinely suppressed by the Communist Party as a foreign inspired and socially decadent art form. Impressionism survived behind closed doors and re-emerged as a dynamic and beloved art form that is uniquely Russian.Mikhail Volodin has been exhibited at the Museum of Russian Art in America the City Art Gallery of Kiev, also Moscow and Madrid. The painting looks even better than the photographs portray.
