Description

Beautiful Nove Faience Monteith. 19th century. Hand decorated floral panels with birds and nests. 43cm wide, 40cm deep, 25.5cm high. This is a very large piece. A monteith was filled with water or ice and used to chill wine or champagne bottles or for cooling and rinsing wine glasses, the glasses would be hung inverted from the notched rim. Signed on base. Great used as a centrepiece bowl, or as a jardiniere. Glaze damage, chips to rim and foot - internal firing spots otherwise sound. The chip on the base is barely noticeable when standing - see photograph. Many more photographs available, please request.
