Description

A very pretty giltwood mirror converted from another piece of furniture.

When we acquired this piece the previous owner thought it had been converted from a miniature dressing screen, maybe a child’s toy. Our belief is this was once a very decorative panel from a French fireplace screen.

Whatever the explanation this mirror was once a panel from a larger piece, with the fabric panel removed and being replaced with a substantial mirror plate. This makes for a truly unique item, the carved wood frame being gilt coloured and decorated with painted flowers. To the lower panel a scene of mid 18th century nature, a lady, gentleman, groom and horse.

Date wise again this piece has given some debate, however we feel it dates to the early 20th century, in a style of circa the late 18th century.
