Description

A great pair of oak framed, Gothic style, Victorian mirrors.

Presented in totally original, untouched condition and with a pleasing time worn ageing to the mirror plate. Decorated with deep chamfering to the frames, wooden lozenges and brass buttons that differ between the two. Could be hung portrait or landscape.

Oxford frames are characterised by sides which cross each other and project some distance at the corners. Popular in the late 19th century first becoming common in the 1860's. Described by Dr Christopher Dresser as a 'fanciful yet good frame'. Sometimes described as Cruciform and in America they were usually known as Rustic frames or Currier & Ives frames.
