Description

This is a marvellous Antique Papier Mache Cigar Case with a beautiful portrait painting of Jenny Lind to the surface. It is in good condition but does exhibit some age-related wear from handling and use, as would be expected for a piece of this age, which includes some wear to the concertina section. It measures approximately 13m by 7cm.

To the inside of the main bod as well as the removable centre pouch there is a sticker that states “Scott Collection 9.1.45”.

Opera singer Jenny Lind (1802-1887), dubbed the “Swedish Nightingale”, was one of the best known and most popular entertainers in mid-19th century Europe. She performed in soprano roles in opera in Sweden and across Europe, and undertook an extraordinarily popular concert tour of the United States beginning in 1850
