Description
This beautifully hand-carved boxwood mould was originally used in a traditional workshop for pressing or casting decorative motifs in gesso, compo, or plaster, almost certainly for picture frames.The detailed Rococo revival design features scrolling acanthus leaves and a central shell cartouche, reflecting the ornate style of Victorian and early Edwardian craftsmanship.
With a rich, aged patina and the marks of workshop use, this piece offers both historical interest and aesthetic appeal.
It could be hung on the wall, or it stands perfectly well on its own for display on a shelf or table. It makes a perfect addition for collectors, restorers, or antique picture frame makers seeking authentic period tools and decorative design heritage.
