Description
A carved mould for creative decorative elements on picture or mirror frames, architectural features etc. Created in a slab of walnut or perhapa pear wood this would have been used by pressing gesso into the carefully carved mould and enable reproduction of several identical elements, for painting or more likely, gilding. Dates from around 1810-1830ish.Nowadays these make wonderful decorative items, and this one is complete with a hanger at the back, ready for wall mounting, although it stands perfectly well too.
