Late 19C Oak Roll Top Desk by Cutler of Buffalo NY.
The S shaped tambor sliding front opening to a fitted interior of drawers and pigeon holes. The 14 small drawers being boxes with open backs and having mitred fronts with brass handles with lable frames. Two slim central drawers over three bowed drawers over shaped front document spaces over void area which houses three revoving inkwells on adjustable arm. The corner carved brackets concealing pen drawers. The four long drawers being fileing drawers housing lettered files stamped with makers name. The three long drawers having one pen drawer with four bowl shapes for paper clips etc. The writing surface is maple. Each pedestal having three shallow and one deep drawers with slide above on plinth base with hidden castors. Two drawers stamped Cutler and Son. Desk Factory. Buffalo. N.Y.U.S.A. Retail Label for Pioneer. Bold St. Liverpool. This firm was owned by Gillows. All ends and back are panelled.

Abner Cutler & Son were cabinetmakers in Buffalo, New York whostarted production in the late 1820s. The firm specialised in rolltop desks and by the 1850s had been granted seven patents related to the desk's mechanism. The company was known as 'Cutler & Son' by the 1870s and exhibited some desks at the 1876 Philadelphia Centennial Exhibition. By the early 1900s, the firm was known as the 'Cutler Desk Co.' In 1930 it was taken over by the Sikes Chair Co., also of Buffalo
