17th Century Carved Oak Bible Reading Slope Desk on Stand


This is a lovely old Bible Box, the desk is in 2 pieces, the top section would have been for keeping the family bible in. With the lid closed, it can be used as a reading stand or lectern, the base or stand is a 19th century addition, it has been made to fit exactly and has a small catch on the back to prevent the top section moving
The top section has a small gallery at the lower edge to prevent books etc. slipping off, it has carving to the front and a large handsome iron lock plate. The base has turned legs an floor stretchers, and it has a moulded edge on three sides which secure the top in place

The desk is in good condition for its age it is a very attractive piece and lends itself as a greeting station or similar as it looks lovely from all sides
A good Gothic piece with an excellent patina, Desk is 34” high, 20” wide and 14” deep
