Vintage Handheld Scottish Lion Rampant Flag

Photos

Description

The printed Royal Scottish Standard flag in soft thin cotton showing the lion rampant depicted center within a red double border having a motif of alternating heraldic lilies on a yellow field. The flag has printed ‘British made’ on it and is attached to the original softwood pole which terminates in a knob finial.

The textile is in sound condition with a slight fade across the fabric but remaining very vibrant. There is fraying to the edges.

The Royal Standard of Scotland, also known as the Banner of the King of Scots, or more commonly the Lion Rampant of Scotland, is the Scottish Royal Banner of Arms having been used by the Kings of Scotland, with the first King to have done so being Alexander II (1214-1249).

A nice old example of an instantly recognizable flag.
