Qala-e-Now Kelim Rug 283cm x 198cm
Description
The fine hand-woven reversible tapestry rug having a central floral medallion surrounded by leaves, sprays and bouquets in each corner set in a spectrum of pastel shades. This is an overtly floral drawing, with some influence of French Savonnerie carpets, made by the Aimaq people in the Qala-e-Now region, which is the capital of Badghis province in the north west of Afghanistan, about five hundred kilometers west-north-west from Kabul.
The ancient designs have changed little over the centuries. Made with 100% wool and entirely hand woven, these kelims are exceptional value for money.
Much softer in colour than many kelims this is a rare piece in that kelims are seldom seen for sale from this province.
