Description

The large mixed group sculpture of twenty-three animal skulls and multiple bone fragments dating from the late nineteenth century through to the present day, the collection housed in a large late Victorian period glass dome on ebonised base.

The glass dome and ebonized base are in good original order and the bones and skulls within the dome are mostly in tact. There is the expected amount of loose deposits throughout.

This unique sculpture includes the following skulls deer skulls (4), ram skull (1), sheep (6), fox (2), rabbit (6), goat (1), northern sumatran pig (1), and two unidentified skulls that are from carrion or birds of prey. The mixed bone fragments all belong to small or medium sized mammals indigenous to the UK like foxes and deer.

City of Bones

Long, dark,
Cold and bold.
I hail from a land where no stories are told.
The past is a myth, the future a lie,
And every day every citizen wishes they’d died.
Fog lines the ground of every street
Concealing the bodies rotting like meat.
