Description

A hammered Silver bowl made by Robert and William Sorley, watch and clock makers, jewellers and silversmiths, of 1 Buchanan Street and 136 Argyle Street, Glasgow.
It is hallmarked with the maker's mark "RS/WS" for R & W Sorley, the Glasgow town mark and date letter "I" for 1905/06.
The underside stamped with the maker's name "Sorley, Silversmiths, Glasgow" and the design registration number Rd429216.
The bowl has a presentation inscription relating to the Caledonian Railway Co, dated 1906
"A token of friendship presented to Mr Thomas Makins by his colleagues, on his leaving the office of The Engineer-In-Chief of The Caledonian Railway Company, 1st November 1906."
