A nice, antique, early Victorian Scottish Sterling Silver Gravy (Stuffing, Basting or Serving) Spoon made by James McKay in Edinburgh and dating from c1853.
The spoon is hallmarked with the maker's mark "JMc." for James McKay, the Scottish "thistle" Sterling Silver mark, the Monarch's Head duty mark (Queen Victoria), the Edinburgh "Castle" town mark and date letter "W" for 1853/54.
The terminal engraved with the Clan Ferguson Motto "Dulcius Ex Asperis" (Sweeter after difficulties) above a Bee on a Thistle.
