Description

A very nice Antique Victorian English Silver "Tartan" Snuff Box by Edward Smith, Birmingham and dating from c1845.
The box is hallmaked on the inside of the lid with the maker's mark "ES" for Edward Smith, the Lion Passant Sterling Silver Mark and the Monarch's Head (Queen Victoria) duty mark. The base with the maker's mark, the Birmingham town mark and the date letter "w" for 1845/46.
There is floral engraved decoration to all for side, the base and lid having tartan effect engraving. The lid with a large cartouche that is free of engraving or inscriptions.
The box is in very good condition but does have some very minor light scratches, mentioned for accuracy, they do not detract in the slightest from this lovely snuff box (see photo).
