Description

A set of Four Antique, Victorian Scottish Provincial Egg Spoons made in Glasgow by John Muir Junior and dating from c1840.
The spoons are hallmarked with the makers mark "JMJR" for John Muir Junior, The Monarch's Head duty mark (Queen Victoria), the the Glagow town mark and the Lion Rampant Scottish Silver mark. The marks are are worn and the date letter illegible, however in my opinion it is most probably the date letter "S" for 1837/38.
John Muir Junior is recorded as working c1830 - 1870. The spoons have the Monarch,s Head duty mark for Queen Victoria, therefore no earlier than 1837. The date letter does not appear to be script therefore no later than 1845. It looks like the top of the letter "S" that is visible for 1837/38.
