Description

A good antique, Victorian Scottish Silver Agricultural Medal.
This Kirknewton, Ratho and Currie Ploughing Association medal was presented to John Ronald of Easter Newton in 1885.
Kirknewton, Ratho and Currie are located just west of Edinburgh.
It was made by Alexander Kirkwood & Son, Edinburgh and is complete with the original fitted presentation case/box from the maker Alexander Kirkwood & Son, Medalists, Edinburgh.
The firm of Alexander Kirkwood & Son was established in 1826 and still trade today from their premises at 13 Albany Street, Edinburgh.
The medal is accompanied by newspaper cutting detailing the tragic death of the recipient John Ronald. His body was found in the Union Canal, near the village of Niddry.
The large medal measures 52mm in diameter. The weight is 65.0g.
In excellent condition.
It is apparently unmarked (this is common for Scottish silver medals of this age), therefore selling as white metal.
