Description

A good, Victorian gentleman's sterling silver, pair cased Pocket Watch dating from c1877 by George Mutch of Ellon. Ellon is a town located in Aberdeenshire in the northeast of Scotland, north of Aberdeen.
This watch is a good example, in nice condition and in good working order.
The English made, sterling silver case is in good condition, all covers opening and closing tightly as they should. It has full English hallmarks for sterling silver. The maker's mark, the Lion Passant sterling silver mark, the Chester town mark and the date letter "o" for 1877/78. The rear of the case with the former owner's name engraved. The case in very good overall condition, but does have some extremely minor indents and wear consistent with age.
The outer case with an old watchmaker's repair paper from Alex. Gray of Netherkirkgate in Aberdeen.
The silver dial is in very good condition. It has the hours in gold roman numerals with gold floral decoration to the centre. There is a sub-seconds dial at six o'clock.
The good quality, full plate, Lever movement is in good working order. It is key wind and key set, with the key provided.
The watch measures 53mm in diameter (across the case).
Overall, this is a very good example, it would make a lovely addition to any collection.
