PROVENANCE:
This watch has an interesting history. The presentation inscription reads "To Nurse Innes from Marcus Dods, 1907 - 1909."
Dr Marcus Dods (1834 - 1909) was the late Principal of New College, Edinburgh. He was a minister of Renfield Free Church, Glasgow (1864 - 1889). In August 1889 he took up residence at 23 Great King Street, Edinburgh where he lived for the rest of his life.
His letters are published, the book the "Later Letters of Marcus Dods" contains a letter to his sister Andrea, April 1908 where he makes reference "I have still the delightful Nurse Innes".
Nurse Innes obviously gifted this watch as a thank you for nursing Dods until his death on 26 April 1909.
