Description

A very impressive pair of antique, late Victorian English Sterling Corinthian Column Sterling Silver Candlesticks made by Martin & Hall at their Shrewsbury Works in Sheffield and dating from c1900.
The candlesticks with reeded columns, the bases decorated with a Ram's head at each corner linked by swags.
They are hallmarked with the maker's mark "RM/EH" for Martin & Hall (Richard Martin & Ebenezer Hall), the Lion Passant sterling silver mark, the Crown town mark for Sheffield and date letter "h" for 1900/1901.
These large candlesticks measure approx. 13" inches (330mm) in height, the bases 4 1/2" inches (115mm) square.
They are in excellent overall condition.
The bases are "loaded". This is common with candlesticks where a heavier infill is added to the base in order to increase stability and to prevent them toppling over for obvious safety reasons.
