Silver Trophy Goblet The Kings Cup, Braemar
Description
A good George V, English Sterling Silver Trophy Cup made Charles Boyton & Son Ltd of London and dating from c1924.It is hallmarked with the maker's mark "CB&S" for Charles Boyton & Son Ltd, the Lion Passant Silver mark, the Leopard's Head London town mark, the date letter "h" for 1923/24.
The goblet has an engraved inscription of Scottish, Royal Deeside interest to the front
"THE KING'S CUP, Crathie & Braemar Agricultural Association, Ploughing, won by Alexander Forbes 23rd Feb 1924."
Crathie and Braemar are located in Royal Deeside, Aberdeenshire, Scotland near the Queens Scottish residence Balmoral Castle. Balmoral Castle was purchased by Prince Albert for Queen Victoria in 1852 and has been a popular retreat for the Royal family ever since. It is located between Braemar and Ballater, the Royal family regularly attending events like the famous Braemar Gathering and Ballater Highland Games. During their visits to Balmoral the Royal family attend Crathie Kirk (church).
The goblet measures just under 9" inches (225mm) in height and 4" inches (105mm) in diameter at the top.
The weight is 262.3g/9.25oz/8.43ozt
