Description

A relatively rare United States Watch Company of Waltham antique Pocket Watch. The company was established in 1885.
The watch has a nice, 15 Jewel, full plate movement with a lovely damaskeened finish. It is signed by the makers "U.S. Watch Co., Waltham, Mass". Also signed "A New Watch Company at Waltham, Est'd. 1885". The watch has the serial number 607,577 dating it to c1900. It is estimated the company may have produced up to 890,000 watches, a long way short of the 35 million produced by the American Waltham company.
The watch is in a Dueber Silverine case. These cases are termed Nickel Silver and are an alloy of nickel, copper and zinc. They were used because they were extremely durable and have the appearance of silver but much stronger therefore idea for "working" pocket watches i.e. on the rail roads etc.
The dial has the hours in Roman numerals and a sub-seconds dial at six o'clock. The outer minute chapter also numbered at 5 minute intervals. The dial is signed by the makers "United States Watch Co.". It is in good condition but has some hairlines as can be seen from the photo.
The watch is in very good overall condition and in good working order.
The watch measures 57mm diameter
