Description

A nice, English Silver Box made by John Rose of Hockley Street, Birmingham. Originally this box would have been a cigarette or cigar box but would make a really nice jewellery box.
It has engine turned engraving to the top and sides. There is a rectangular cartouche to the front that is free of engraved initials or inscriptions, however there is a presentation plaque to the inside of the lid. This is held in position against the wood lined interior by 4 small pins and could easily be removed if desired.
It is hallmarked with the maker’s mark “JR" for John Rose, the anchor Birmingham town mark, the Lion Passant Silver Mark and the the date letter "Y" for 1948/49.
