Description

Mannequin, Dressmakers Dummy, Wasp Waist

The Mannequin or Tailors Dummy, dates from the late 19th Century, as you will see by her, nowadays unusual, wasp waist shape.

This charming young lady speaks with a Scottish accent as she has a Scottish name and address to the brass adjusting handle "A Hamilton, 70 Glassford St , Glasgow." I understand that Archibald Hamilton was an architect and shop fitting company established in 1868.

She still has her original stand and other wood turnings are all in black wood, apart from the turned wood roundels at the armholes. All have been restored, as has her body, she has a new linen cover. She is supported on a metal pole.

The Dummy stands approximately 59” tall, adjustable. With a waist of 21”
