1894 Masons "Water Lily" Hydra Jug, Cobalt Handle

Description
#AD232: Masons Water Lily Pattern Jug or PitcherThis original old 130 year old Mason's Chinoiserie jug was made by the Mason Co. in Staffordshire. It has a thick luscious glossy glaze and a beautiful gold gilt scaled snake head hydra jug handle in deep mazarine blue with the tail as the handle end.
This 1890's original signed jug or pitcher is the very collectible Mason pattern called " Water Lily". This pattern can be found in "A Guide to Mason's Patent Ironstone Patterns, circa 1813-1848" published by The Masons Collectors' Club.
From circa 1872 the 'B' red/orange script numerals series used handwritten Morley & Ashworth Pattern numbers to delineate date on the reverse. This is signed with a number starting with 8. We believe it to be B 8418 for the year 1894, although it is blurred. This goes along with all the other dating the piece details perfectly. The pattern is hand painted in beautiful polychrome enamels and has much gold gilding. The jug is clearly marked with the Mason's mark, as well as the desirable red tally mark for pattern.
The condition is clean and beautiful. There are very slight flake tiny chips or nibbles to the very spout area, if you run your hand over edge. There is some wearing of the gilding on the very fine edge. There are no other cracks or repairs, is quite stunning condition for age. Click images to see condition in close up views. Beautiful English pottery piece. It was found in Newton Abbot, Devon, England with another Mason's orange and black jug found on our site. See our other Masons pieces.
