Mercury Barometer by Godot of Paris c.1840


Description
Early 19th.c. mahogany stick barometer by Godot of Paris c.1840. Open glass tube mercury barometer flanked with both a mercury and spirit thermometers. Fine mahogany case with particularly well figured flame mahogany veneer and unusual wavy mouldings. Silvered and engraved plates with adjustable markers and scale to the barometer panel for recording and comparing the atmospheric pressure from one day to the next. Named for the maker's Godot of Quai de l'horloge 63, Paris and with various observations to the thermometers including a temperature of minus 14 degrees centigrade (10 degree Fahrenheit) recorded in Paris in 1838. Excellent working condition, case has been cleaned and waxed in our workshops.Dimensions: Width 7½" Height 41" Depth 2"
